What is the concept of a Futon bed?

A Futon-bed is the European version of the way many people in Japan sleep. While they fold out their Futon (mattress) every evening and lay down on the thin mattress which is in contact with the ground of the room, the more „comfortable“ version of the world outside of Japan has designed a bed that is relatively low and hard – as if you slept on the floor. The physical benefit is airflow that avoids moisture etc. The main benefit of the Futon-bed is the „good sleep“ you gain and to help prevent back pain for those who have this problem.

My personal journey…

I found the idea of sleeping like the Japanese very exciting and built my very own Futon-bed – and it is great! I made it in a modern design and solid and on a low budget.  There were different attempts on building it till I was satisfied with the result. I cannot imagen myself sleeping on my old bed anymore, as I am very happy with the sleep I get now – I really mean it.

I am about to sum up my work in a user-friendly guidance, so other people can build their own Futon-bed just like they want it. My goal is not to stick to one model – I still will describe and include the plans on how I built my bed, but there will be another section for how to construct Futons with f.e. different measures and levels from the ground.
